Lost In Music ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘ February 24

One of my great loves is music, from the collection of vinyls I have inherited from my Dad to the ones I discovered on my own. The cassettes that I wore out the ribbons on, to the mini disks of swapped and recorded music at festivals and DJs from our around the world travel and now Soundcloud, Mixcloud and Spotify! Then there are the endless podcast and radio programs that I love to melt my ears into. Music for me is an escape. It is a moment to be swept away, to release yourself and your body. Along with music I love dance and movement, and this has been a regular fixture of my week, even if it is only for a minute, moment, or a whole night. It is an essential part of my life.

You will have seen by now, either via the website, or my clumsy share the other week on an Instagram story (still not sure what happened there!) that I have complied a Mimi Moon Meno Soundtrack on Spotify. Each newsletter I want to share with you why I picked a certain song, or recently added it. I hope that the reasoning inspires you, lifts you up and helps you to feel positively charged!

As the section of the newsletter is named after this one, I will open with it, โ€œLost in Music, by Sister Sledgeโ€ I have added the Dimetri from Paris remix because I like the ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘, however the original is awesome and was produced, and arranged by Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards. The original has depth and is best listened to on a good sound system or with quality headphones.

I added this firstly because it is a song that all my girlfriends know me by, it was my 40th anthem and I simply cannot sit still if I hear it. It makes me move and puts me in a great mood every time and whichever version, I will never get sick of hearing this track. I know all the words and will happily sing it for youโ€ฆโ€ฆ…because โ€˜Melody is good to meโ€™ and is good for you too.

Sister Sledge, because they are a fine example of family and sisters doing it for themselves. This track is actually off their 3rd studio album and is the 3rd single (you know how I love 3’s) on ‘We Are Family’, released in 1979, the year I was born! Sisters Debbie, Joni, Kathy, and Kim became household names and a symbol of unity with this album. In 2024 they continue to deliver the โ€˜Sledgendaryโ€™ message that โ€œNothing is Greater than Loveโ€, spreading joy with music that uplifts and celebrates life, love, and togetherness! After all, they are Family!

Most songs on the Mimi Moon Playlist have me changing lyrics, to Meno references. For example, with this one โ€˜We’re lost in Meno, Caught in a trap! No turnin’ back. We’re lost in Menoโ€™ or the lyrics remind me of a Meno symptom, like this one, โ€˜Some people lose everything? First to go is their mindโ€™ in reference to brain fog, or โ€˜Responsibility, To me is a tragedyโ€™ because sometimes, you simply want to slam your bedroom door shut and have a good cry into your pillow (because of a Meno situation), but then you remember that you are not a teenager and in fact you are a grown woman who has to go to work, has a husband and other responsibilities, god damn it! ย

Finally, and the most important thing is that these sisters have always been the ultimate at rocking an outstandingly sexy glitter onesie! I mean you just cannot go past their fashion and embodiment of all things disco and soul. From day one to now, they are elegance and sexy all wrapped up in one. I love that in 2024 they are still wearing glitter onesies, just being who they are and not letting age or stereotypes get in the way.

I love you sister sledge!
